Let a family member or trusted friends know where you’ll be walking in and when you should arrive.

Choose appropriate footwear

Wear sensible shoes that will allow for you to make a quick getaway.

Wear bright clothing or reflective bands

Make sure you can be seen when crossing roads.

Stick to public areas where you can be seen

Don’t take shortcuts through deserted areas if it can be avoided..

Stay aware of your surroundings

Don’t wear earphones or have your eyes on your phone, as you’ll be less likely to notice suspicious people or cars around you.

Walk in the direction of oncoming traffic

Always walk facing traffic so you can see cars coming towards you and vehicles can’t pull up behind you.

Keep your valuables hidden

Don’t walk around with any valuables out on display.
