Hijacked vehicle recovered and firearms confiscated in Mitchell’s Plain

On Thursday afternoon (2020-08-20) at around 13:30, members of Mitchell’s Plain Organised Crime Unit were busy conducting crime prevention duties when they acted on information about firearms being kept at a house in Juniper Street, Eastridge, Mitchell’s Plain.
When police searched the premises they discovered firearms and several rounds of ammunition. In addition, the members found a VW Polo standing in the yard, had been hijacked in the Mitchell’s Plain area.
A 42-year-old male was arrested and faces a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of a hijacked vehicle. The suspect is expected to appear.
In an unrelated matter, members attached to the Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit on Tuesday 2020-08-18 at about 05:30 they received information about a firearm that is kept at a house in Netball Crescent, Beacon Valley. Police searched the premises, and Norinco star firearm, with 22 rounds of ammunition were found. A 40-year-old male man was arrested and he appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates’ court.
