A Four-Year-Old Sets Flat Alight in Phoenix, KZN

A 4-year-old boy is suspected to have started a fire that caused extensive damage to several flats on Everham Place in Westham – Phoenix a short while ago.

At approximately 08:44 members of Reaction Unit South Africa was called out to the home after receiving multiple calls from residents in the area reporting the fire. Upon arrival, the upper level of the home was found engulfed in flames. Reaction Officers evacuated occupants from two flats which are attached to the burning home due to the flames and smoke spread through the building.

Firemen are currently on scene and in the process of extinguishing the blaze. A 58-year woman and her 4-month-old grandson were treated by medics for smoke inhalation on scene.

It is alleged that a 4-year-old boy was seen playing with a box of matches in one of the bedrooms when the fire started.
