More than half a million rands worth of stolen vehicles as well as illicit cigarettes recovered
Members of 10 Anti-Aircraft Regiment had a busy weekend where they managed to confiscate more than half a million rands worth of stolen vehicles as well as illicit cigarettes.
The SA National Defence Force soldiers whilst on foot patrol in the area of Pontdrift Operational Base which is situated close to the Botswana border, confiscated illicit cigarettes worth R 152 922,26s. The cigarettes were dropped by suspects who ran back across the border into Zimbabwe.
Their counterparts, who were busy with Vehicle Control Point Operations at T-Junction, which is situated on the northern side of Musina Town, confiscated the Toyota Corolla Cross, valued at R 339 990,00, which the South African Police Service confirmed to have been stolen in Centurion.
At Support Base which is situated at Beitbridge Point of Entry, soldiers were busy with foot patrol along the Republic of South Africa/Zimbabwe border when they stopped and searched the Ford Ranger bakkie valued at around R 199 890,00. The suspects were arrested after it was discovered that the vehicle was transporting illicit cigarettes worth R 112 459,00.
The total amount of all successes is valued at R 807 261,26.
Needless to say, all confiscated items were handed over to the South African Police Service as the law dictates including the arrested suspects.
The Officer Commanding Joint Tactical Headquarters Limpopo Colonel Harold Tladi commended the members for a job well done.
