Fake real-estate agent arrested after defrauding clients in excess of fifty thousand Rand
A female suspect aged in her thirties, was apprehend by Ensure Security in the Morningside area on Monday evening.
The female had been renting an Air Bed and Breakfast in Florida Road, which she then advertised the various units she rented on Facebook Marketplace for lease.
The suspect would then book viewings for potential tenants, under the pretence of being a licensed estate agent, showing them the unit as up for rent at the end of a period once the current tenants had moved out.
Interested parties were then asked to pay a deposit for the property, in order to secure it. The potential tennants were unable to reach the lady once the deposit had been paid.
A description of the suspect was made available to Ensure Security and our Central Command (CENTCOM) identified a female matching the suspect’s description, entering the building with a client this morning.
Facial recognition matched the female to the images obtained of the suspect.
Together with the South African Police Services, Ensure Security’s Tactical Intervention Unit confronted the suspect in her rental apartment, where she admitted to being the lady in the footage.
She was remanded into the custody of the South African Police Services for further investigation and processing.
