ATNS Board and EXCO Sign Ethics Pledge on Global Ethics Day
Today, in celebration of Global Ethics Day, the ATNS Board, led by Chairman Mr. Zola Majavu, CD (SA), and supported by ATNS CEO Ms. Nozipho Mdawe and her Executive Committee members, signed the ATNS Ethics Pledge at the ATNS Aviation Training Academy in Johannesburg.
This significant event was witnessed by ATNS staff and representatives from the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) and Solidarity, marking a milestone for the State-Owned Company.
Global Ethics Day, celebrated annually on the third Wednesday of October, is dedicated to exploring the role of ethics in our everyday lives and in shaping responsible business and societal outcomes. The signing of the Ethics Pledge underscores ATNS’ commitment to its core values of integrity and accountability, reinforcing that ethics is a top priority for the State-Owned Company.
During the event, a panel discussion on Ethics and Leadership took place, emphasising the company’s dedication to ethical leadership and values. The discussion highlighted that ethical conduct is a shared responsibility within the company and encouraged employees to voice ethical concerns without fear of retaliation.
ATNS CEO Ms. Nozipho Mdawe reaffirmed the ATNS’ commitment to the highest standards of ethical conduct and professional behaviour in all aspects of air traffic control and navigation services. She emphasised that ethics is a cornerstone of ATNS’ corporate culture, guiding decisions at every level. “ATNS has implemented a comprehensive Ethics Management Programme, supported by a dedicated Ethics Management Committee, a Social and Ethics Board Committee, and Ethics Ambassadors within its teams”.
Gen(ret) Lucky Ngema, Chairman of the ATNS Social and Ethics Committee, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of ethical leadership in an interconnected world. He reiterated the committee’s role in ensuring that, “ATNS aligns with values of diversity, integrity, and accountability, and adheres to the principles of the King IV Code.”
The ATNS Board Chairman, Mr. Zola Majavu, concluded the event by expressing pride in the company’s ethical journey and the deep commitment shown by all employees to uphold ATNS values. “The Board’s role is to lead by example, to ensure that the highest standards of ethical behaviour are maintained throughout the organisation.”
