Today is National Disability Rights Awareness Day

In 2013, South Africa approved the annual celebration of the National Disability Rights Awareness Month (DRAM) and the 3rd of December as National Disability Rights Awareness Day.

The theme for the National Disability Rights Awareness Day 2022 is:

“Empowering Persons with Disabilities through a resourceful, sustainable and safe environment.”

The annual observance to commemorate the National Disability Rights Awareness Day on the 3rd of December 2022, aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. As a government department, the South African Police Service (SAPS), embraces people with disabilities and is aware that the disability agenda is a transformation and human rights issue in South Africa.

The International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1982. As such, South Africa commemorates National Disability Rights Awareness Day annually on the 3rd December.

The theme for the International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2022 is:

“Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world.”
