Theft and vandalism at a 90-year-old temple in Inanda

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrested a 27-year-old South African male for Housebreaking and Theft of valuables stolen from a 90-year-old Temple in Tea Estate – Inanda.

The call for assistance came from the Vice-Chairman of the Shree Vishnu Temple who reported that forced entry was gained into the building. Reaction Officers arrived on the scene and noticed two suspects fleeing. Abandoning their bike & Response Vehicle, both Officers pursued the suspects on foot and eventually apprehended one. Entry was gained via a window and ceiling and the premises were extensively vandalised.

The suspect confirmed that Murtis, God Lamps, aluminum doors, pots, tables, utensils, and other valuables were removed from the Temple and loaded onto a white bakkie that left the scene prior to the arrival of Reaction Officers.
