Tyre shop owner killed in a compressor explosion in Verulam CBD

A Zimbabwean national was killed after an air compressor exploded at his used tyre business on Ireland Street in the Verulam CBD a short while ago (Wednesday).

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the business premises at approximately 09:46 after employees of a service station found the man lying in a pool of blood in his workshop while investigating the source of the explosion.

On arrival, Medics assessed the victim and found that the victim was partially decapitated by a piece of metal after an air compressor exploded in his workshop. He was alone at the time of the incident.

Police and the Ethekwini Fire Department are on scene and are investigating further.
